USA aupair working in England

job opportunities for US au pairs

I was an au pair in England last year and I had a fabulous time – the time of my life!

Before I looked in to it, I didn’t even know what an au pair was; it wasn’t until a friend of mine told me of his experience in Germany the year before, that I decided that I would take a year out of University to become an au pair.

From the moment I arrived in England, I knew that I was going to have a great time. My Host Family were so kind and always treated me as one of the family. I had my own room, use of one of the family’s cars, access to the internet and a TV in my own room. I looked after 3 lovely children who were aged between 5 and 9. I would work about 5 hours a day; I helped to get them ready for school and give them their breakfast in the morning and then I would often take them to school. During the daytime, I would help with some housework and ironing as well as having lots of free time. In the afternoon, I would pick up the children, play with them and then supervise supper, bath-time and bedtime. Helping looking after the children was great fun and I still hold them all close to my heart.

I attended college two days a week during my visit to the UK. This was great as it meant that I met lots of friends from all over the world. The lessons also improved my English so much that I passed my exam just before coming home.

At the weekends when I had free time, I would go with other friends to visit London, the coast and many other amazing places. The photo album is full with all the memories.

Although I missed my own family while I was away, we kept in touch through the internet most days. Once the year was over, I was so sad to leave; I had become fluent in English, I had made so many friends, I had fallen in love with the family that had cared for me, I had become very independent and I had also managed to save lots of money for my future.
